n April, the pupils of the American international section of the primary school went there for two afternoons. It was the perfect outing for language week!
Upon arrival, they were greeted by a team of volunteers who invited the pupils to have their lunch in the library before starting the visit.
The librarians explained to our students how to borrow books, search for topics and become members. The students searched for books related to the current themes of the Non-Linguistic Discipline (DNL) but also for publications of personal interest.
Once they had their books, our students found a quiet place and read or took the opportunity to listen to a book reading by one of the volunteers. Surprised by the high level of English spoken by our students, the staff were intrigued to discover the variety of routes the children followed to develop their language ability.
Founded in 1946 by a British regiment, the English International Library has over 26,000 publications from classic to contemporary. It is run by an international team. Their purpose is to foster a community around English language and culture.
If you want to become a member, know that the membership costs €7 for children and €14 for adults per year with the possibility of checking out up to 20 books at a time. The library also serves the community in many other ways from book reading for toddlers on Saturdays to facilitating a debate club for secondary school children.
