Our history

Excellence over time
1962
The beginning

On the initiative of a small group of parents, around 15 children began their first school year in premises located in the garden of the French Consulate. This was the beginning of the French school of Dusseldorf which, from the following year, was linked to Strasbourg Academy in order to ensure that the education provided was recognised by the French Ministry of National Education.

1977
The address

The school moves to its own premises at 220 Graf-Recke-Strasse.

1985
Fire

The school was the victim of an arson attack. The premises were consumed by the fire and had to be demolished. Rebuilding work quickly followed.  The local authorities supported the school by helping to reduce the amount of red tape involved and lessons were able to resume in September at the Greek school on Hermannplatz. At the end of April 1986, lessons were able to start in our new building.

1994
Opening of the Lycée

The school went on to open classes for Seconde (UK Y11 / US 10th grade), Première (UK Y12 / US 11th grade) and Terminale (UK Y13 / US 12th grade) becoming a fully-fledged Lycée (sixth form / high school). So that the school could cater for this new offering, the school’s Parent Teacher Association, led by the first Head Teacher/Principal, Mr Portzer, decided to invest in a new building to house 8 classrooms and a laboratory.

1998
Expansion of the nursery school / Maternelle

Expansion of the Maternelle (UK nursery - Y1 / US nursery - kindergarten) and the creation of 4 new classrooms with an independent entrance as well as a maintenance room and basement storage.

2012 - 2013

After a year of construction, the new building was ready for use. Housing a canteen, eight classrooms, two practical work rooms and four offices for the administrative team.
