Last Friday, the 1ères students attended a theatre workshop at the Junges Schauspielhaus. They got into the shoes of comedians by playing out everyday situations, such as getting out of bed. Lama Ali, our drama teacher, guided and encouraged them in this exercise and revealed their individual talents. Then, in groups of five or six students, they got together to perform short playlets based on movements that Lama presented, such as “breathing”, “playing a horned God” or “doing a monotonous action”.
To complete this activity, we were given pictures of Edward Hopper’s paintings and we shared what the works evoked in us.
The play
Rausch is a silent play consisting only of choreography and pantomime directed by Gregory Caers. The story follows the daily life of five characters who live in a glass labyrinth. They do the same thing every day until a mysterious and strange character disrupts their routine. After this incident, the characters are no longer able to return to their previous daily routine, their normal life. Nevertheless, they are now happy. Although there are many comic moments, in the end it is a reflection on reality. The play awakens a desire to escape from the daily grind.
We would like to thank all those involved in the project, the students, the accompanying teachers and the moderator Lama.
